LUBRICATED GOAT - PLAYS THE DEVILS MUSIC 1987 (AUS)

Here's a strange one for sure. I first became aware of these Australian noise punk mongers around 90 or 91. On one of my trips to Lexington, Ky with my old friend Doug Hilbert, a crazy redneck punk metal maniac and a damn nice guy who turned me onto alot of great punk and metal music. Doug got some kind of check for an accident that he was in and on multiple occasions would skip school and go to Cut Corners records in Lexington and Doug would buy a ton of punk, metal and weird records, mostly based on what we thought of the cover, this was years before I meet Stoney Tombs or any of the other Lexington weirdo crew. So anyway low and behold, this was one of the records that Doug bought. Long story short he didn't dig it and I did, thus it became mine. This is damn hard to categorize, because this little gem goes from funeral doom/circus music to mean noise punk to love makin blaxploitation music and back again. Crazy stuff. These dudes put out several records after this one which I liked but this one is the best for sure. My favorite tracks here are "Beyond the Grave", "Nervequake" and "Frotting with Ennio", all different, but all good. I really dig the raw ass guitars and some of the weird lyrics like "Even the birds in the tree's seem to whisper GET FUCKED!". The main guy here, Stu Spasm went on to the band CRUNT, with his then wife Kat Bjelland of BABES IN TOYLAND. They pretty much sucked, but don't let that stop you from checking this out, but only if your a more curious listener. Of course the cover art is an A++, I don't think you could make a much better cover for this. See what you think.

  2. I remember in high school asking my friend to pick up either Plays the Devils Music or Paddock of Love for me when he went to L.A., but when he saw the covers he refused to buy them! What a puss! I didn't get them till a few years later. Ever seen their video for "In the Raw"? It's pretty hilarious
