EDDIE AND THE MONSTERS - WHATEVER HAPPENED TO EDDIE 1983

Oh Jeez! Here's another one to test your Patience. Not my favorite piece of monster wax, but still I have to say I like this single in a way. The idea is classic and the cover is cool, I mean who doesn't want to hear Eddie Munster sing, right? However there's really no way this could have been as good as it looks or as good as I wanted it to be. Honestly this sucks. It's almost audio torture to hear this guy drag ass through two badly(for the most part) written new wave songs and there's a goddamn sax solo that makes me want to murder someone and no this is not the real Butch Patrick and yes this is a couple decades after THE MUNSTERS had run their course, in case you were thinking WTF? If you didn't already know their are a couple of actual MUNSTER records that blow this out of the water, maybe I will post those tomorrow. The B-side is a reggae type new waver, that is terrible, but better than the A-side. Give this little psychotronic platter a spin and see if you even make it threw the first song, ha ha...Enjoy!

  1. I like how you've finally resorted to posting shit that just flat out sucks. Just when I thought you couldn't make this blog anymore entertaining....

  2. Hello Goodnight Whatever You Are: I am Helen Darras, Author of "Eddie Munster AKA Butch Patrick." With regards to this record, which was intended to be fun (1983 was a fun year, not wrought with your cynicism of 2009), Butch made music history by being the first unsigned act to appear on MTV with this song. Butch wrote the song & appeared in the video, but that is NOT him singing, a fact that has never been hidden from the public. His younger brother Steven Hunt appears with him (Steve is directly above Butch in the photo of the 45 sleeve you posted). As far as making it (to quote you) "threw the first song," have you considered doing objective data research & proper spelling before making a blog post? Or are you one of those people of 2009 who are the passive aggessive chickens who hide behind a computer and say things they would NEVER get caught dead saying to someone's face? Even the face of an original Munster. Are you a TV pop culture Icon? I'll bet not. Think twice before the next time you post. And when you do post, if you can't say anything nice than don't say anything at all: manners, a trait gone from your generation, but well remembered by the Munsters clan. Helen Darras, Munster by Proxy and proud of it.

  3. Helen,
First of all let me say that I am am certainly not a TV icon. Also thank you for writing me and for all the bonus info, I see you are very passionate about this subject, that's cool with me. Let me say that I actually do like this single and I am a huge MUNSTERS fan. However It is impossiable to not see the humour in this record and it's general lack of ability. The music and and the vocals are bad at best and this was made in the 80's and has basically nothing to do with the real MUNSTERS show anyway and if you cant objective about what's good and and what's bad, what's the point of that. Sorry if you didn't like the review of this record. Shouldnt you be watching THE MUNSTERS instead of looking at some old metalheads blog anyway?

  5. Alright guys and girls. Everyone here can have there own opinion. No need to get ugly if you dont agree.
Helen, I took the time to google you and I see that you have alot invested in the legacy of Eddie Munster, so I can understand your anger, but still that's a terriable record, Im listening to it right now BTW, ha ha. Also It seems where not THAT far apart in age, so I dont understand all the Generation talk?

  6. I just love the way she wants to assault you for your spelling of "threw" and then tosses out "passive aggessive." What's that saying about stones and glass houses? God forbid somebody dislikes or pokes a little fun at something that a great American icon like Butch "Eddie Munster" Patrick did. Don't rag on Eddie Haskell - you might get shot in your sleep.

  7. Am I the only one who likes this single? I even own it!
I'd be curious about Helen's book, but her attitude seems that of someone who would suck the fun out of reading Butch's account of being a "Munster". Sheesh! Lighen up, daddy-o.

  8. p.s. 1983 actually really sucked. Not that 2009 is much better.

  9. Dear Goodnight Whatever You Are: WOW! It's been nearly 2 years since I posted my comments above as "Helen, the Munster by Proxy." First, let me say, I AM SO SORRY! I made a BIG mistake, defending a self proclaimed 41 year illegal drug, sex & alcohol addict. He never followed through with obligations to attend book signings or appearances. He let everyone down, including the few fans he's got left. Please accept my most sincere & humble apologies for any & all the comments I made above. YOU were right & I was 1000% wrong. He is no "Pop Culture Icon," although he also self-proclaims that he is. What is he? He's a & a FIRST RATE Con Man & a convicted felon who has never even voted in one Presidential election (yet touts himself as a Proud American!) I made a terrible & VERY costly mistake by self publishing his biography. Again, please forgive my displaced loyalty of Sept. 2009. I was VERY wrong to criticize your review. You were right. His record sucks, big time. But as a person, he is even worse. Apologetically, Helen Darras

  11. Well, my feelings are hurt. But I understand the anger. Helen is right about Butch. There is a long list of people who entered Butch's life and then he lay waste to them after milking everything he can from you. Generally speaking, he's a loser...his entire life. He is such a bad actor, that he has never gotten a real acting gig. He milks the Munsters. He has no talent other than taking advantage of poor schlubs who want to be next to a "child star." He even bragged to me once that he's ruined the finances of everyone that tried to help him. He thought that was funny. The song is not that bad. It was aimed at teeny boppers not an adult audience. The plan was to get him back on tv while he still looked good in a sit com about the life of him and The Monsters. Not the Munsters. The song sold 200,000 units. If it was that bad, that would not have happened. But remember, it was aimed at 12 year olds and it succeeded. It may have sold more if not for Rocshire Records being shut down by the FBI for embezzlement. Helen and everyone before her were used as toilet paper by Butch. He's not a nice guy. He has perfected the art of lying. He's a perfect example of child star tragedies.
