Hailing from Boston of all places. This is a killer piece of upbeat punk metal madness . Not quite crossover, more in the Venom vein. Even though the album is called "In the Name of Metal", this is really more of punk outing. I love the vocals. sometimes there is a slight Misfits vibe. These guys had to be listening to punk, hardcore and thrash at the time. The bassist went on to be in Post Mortem and Upside Down Cross. Amazing record, loved it!

Absolute crossover classic here from Seattle's Kings of Splatterpunk!! Not my favorite Accused album at this point but this was the one that introduced me to them. Totally amazing punk metal hybrid with killer horror movies lyrics and incredible vocals, cant really think of anyone better in this category. I have loved them since I bought this in 88 and I liked these guys comeback album a couple years back also. That said, I totally hated the follow up with out the vocalist. I just gotta have Blaine's vocals, otherwise there just another Gruntruck, just kidding of course. These guys are complete and utter GODS in my book!!!! Enjoy.

Just got into this one recently, but I had seen the cover before and had no idea the awesome funk that lay inside. Then I got around to giving this little masterpiece a spin!! I knew on the spot I had to have all this dudes albums. On top of that I liked all of them, but this one might be the best. The title track is completely amazing and has one of the wickedest funk bass lines ever laid to vinyl. However "Proud of You" is probably my favorite. An unlikely ballad but the lyrics are just hilarious,. A very funky album that's still totally fresh today!!!

Just like most kids my age, I loved these little records, mostly because I loved the toys and the cartoon, but also because I loved stories, it was always awesome when someone told me a bedtime story or a cool scary story that kept me up all night, I wish I could still have that reaction. Anyway He-Man was one of my major childhood obsessions and still is high on my list even today, I was so happy when they finally made it to DVD. Though this great cover looks like an Anarcho punk/ D-beat record, its really just classic headbanging metal music. Great riffs and great vocals here, I think they could have gone much farther if this wasn't their only release, too bad, cause this is a really good one. Falling somewhere between power metal and speed metal, but with a very Classic metal vibe, along with very well written material. I don't have a clue what happen to these guys, they did get back together at one point I think and there is a Compilation CD of their stuff out there somewhere. Most of the songs are at least somewhat humorous, some of them are pretty funky and weird. AMAZING DELORES - STOP MESSING WITH MY MIND 1994 (US)

This one is just way, way out there, I cant remember this chicks back story exactly. She was the subject of one of Jacob Young's films featured in the Different Drummer series, all of which are worth checking out. She hails from Mudlick, West Virginia, around the same parts as Jesco and Hasil. Anyway I had the pleasure of actually seeing her live sometime back in the mid 90's, truly a sight to see. She did most of these songs and then totally flipped out while doing "Great Balls of Fire", almost to the point something like G.G.Allin. Very crazy indeed for a 50+ woman with a beehive. For the most part the music on this album is a little boring but the singing and lyrics really keep you guessing, just take a look at the song titles, wild shit. For the adventurous listener only.

A killer piece of redneck punk here, maybe even the be all / end all of the style to be honest. You would be very hard pressed to find another band that does this shit with more backwoods anger and fury. Many have compared this to ANTiSEEN over the years and even Nine Pound Hammer, rightly so I guess, that is what this comes closest to in a lot of ways. But where as ANTiSEEN went the whole destructo rock, blood, guts and glory to the max route, so you knew they weren't purely countrified, but maybe more of a punk/redneck weirdo hybrid. While Nine Pound Hammer have always come across like they were kind of making fun of rednecks and Hillbillies really. But these dude's have a completely redneck image, hillbilly outlook and are 100% believable. There's no real tongue in cheek sentiment here per say, even though in some ways their really not being entirely serious. But the over the top shock value of songs like "If you Ain't from Georgia" and "Hellstomper", make them quite hilarious. On par with David Allan Coe's finer X-rated material and just as offensive. In many ways this truly aspires to be those classic D.A.C. albums, going as far as to bravely cover the classic "Rails", fortunately Hellstomper are more than capable of living up to their name and the giant shoes they try to fill, this single is pure proof. I cant say enough about how amazing and rocking this record is, truly a classic piece of wax. They have a shit ton of other releases and all of them are good, so if you like this one, get the rest! This is NOT, I repeat NOT for the easily offended or for those who are prone to getting their panties in a bunch!

Here's a very interesting album for you folks today. Though at first this looks like your average Halloween record, its really a speech therapy album? WTF right? Who knew witches had teaching abilities. Don't let any of that stop you from checking it out though, because I must admit the title track is brutally addictive. When I first heard it I just thought it was goofy, but then I got the urge to play it over and over again to the point that I picked up my guitar and learned it just to sing and play it around the house! Certainly not for everyone but I'm sure there are plenty of you who will enjoy this little oddity.

Here's a pretty good one from Germany, not a perfect album by any means, but there are some really good parts. Over all I really like the guitar sound and the general sound of this record. If there is anything I would change, it would be the sometimes weak vocals. Not all the time but sometimes this guys just sounds wimpy as hell. They aren't playing thrash metal or anything but still the vocals could use a lot more balls. That aside I dig this record pretty well, it will certainly appeal to fans of 80's glam and hard rock. My favorite here would have to be "On the Run". Check it out.

Wanted this one since the first time I seen the cover, which is totally awesome. This doesn't quite live up to the weird cover image, but its pretty damn cool, strange and depressing. These guys seem totally backwards at times and then really progressive too. Very creative stuff, but not hippie rock or jam rock really. These dudes seem rather angry to be frank, this is very anti religious, which is pretty bold for 73. I love the fuzzy, sloppy guitar sound and all the songs are early metal sounding. Alright here's some great Halloween shit for you today, had this album for quite a while before I got around to listening to it, man what was I waiting for, this is fantastic. Very folksy sing along songs that explore Halloween and various other weird themes performed in a storyteller style, with the kids even get in on the fun sometimes, which I love. Kind reminiscent of the Kay Lande and Wade Denning Album I put up a while back, but not quite that brilliant. If I had this one when I was kid, I'm sure I would have worn it out, just killer stuff. Of course I really like this cover also, all the cool library stickers make it even cooler. Would love to own this one someday. I know at least a few of you are really going to like this, you know who you are. Also I cant go without mentioning that this guy has written like hundreds of weird songs, spanning almost any and every topic, fucking crazy, you know this dude has got to be strange. Great metal E.P. here. Great riffs and guitar sound, also dig the vocals a lot, kind of sleazy but kinda power metal. Pretty behind the times for 88, but that's OK with me! Lots of great bands also, my personal favs here would have to be Prisoner's "Backstabber" (what a masterpiece and I love the fucking vocals, a totally intense and ponderous headbanger ) Hellion's "Don't take No for an Answer" (this band should have been so much bigger, this track is almost perfect rock metal) and Stormwitch's "Heart of Ice" (this is a pretty poppy song but I just love it, great sing along type shit). The one is so unreal, where the fuck did this record come from, its just flat out killer. If your as obsessed with this kind of music as I am, Its so hard to wrap your mind around a record this good existing without your knowledge. I mean were always finding new music and bands and now thanks to the Internet, its all actually able to be heard no matter for the most part how obscure it is. But still ever once in a while a record comes along that really reminds you why you dig so deep. First of all this is not a doom metal album, its actually some very heavy rock/punk/metal sounding insanity from Germany 1979. One of the best records I have heard in years. My friend Fenriz turned me on to this one last year on a comp he sent me, featuring the song "Rock 'n' Roll Close to the End of the World", great title right! That and every one of the other tracks here are a prefect mixture of caveman metal brutality, punk delivery and a completely bad attitude. Got to say the vocals are so fucking good!, from punk and straight metal to beyond Lemmy style to almost death metal growls. At times this could be compared to some of the meaner early Motorhead material, they don't sound like Motorhead really but this certainly has the same vibe at times. Very very heavy for 79. Lots of high energy riffs, all with a weird rock 'n' roll punk edge, its sort of like these guys are playing a weird party, don't get me wrong this record actually sounds really really good and not like a live album at all, still there is that special something, I just cant put my finger on it that makes it come alive. The guitar sound itself is pretty fantastic as well, very 70's but a little rawer. Anyway nothing short of essential. Get this one for sure. There is a reissue of this out on CD and vinyl that adds about 11 more tracks, well worth it I think.

Goddamn this is a great punk record from these Portland weirdos. Very metallic but not crossover. A damn mean sound though and some really great songs. A little in the Exploited/G.B.H vein, but at the same time pretty original stuff. This record features Poison Idea members Glenn Estes and Charlie Nims (aka Myrtle Tickner) on bass. These guys got a lot of good shows with bands like Dead Kennedys, Scream, Dr. Know, The Exploited, G.B.H., Hüsker Dü, The Minutemen, D.R.I. and Mercyful Fate, but they never played outside the Pacific Northwest. Well if your not already a huge Doro fan like I am, Warlock is the right place to start. I have been a fan since around 1988 or so, when I picked my first piece of Warlock wax 1987's "Triumph and Agony". Doro's voice is fucking amazing and she is easily the best looking metal vocalist of all time. My teen crush for her still runs deep, so Doro if your out there, I'm waiting for the call! The version of "Burning the Witches" on this demo is much more alive and energetic than the album version and is a must hear for Doro fans. Fantastic piece of unique music. At first I didn't know what to expect from this, considering the cover. Glam maybe? But not really, at least not in the usual way. This is a heavy little album and pretty original, its hard to compare it to anything, maybe some earlier Grand Funk stuff played by someone slightly more caveman than Mark Farner, but this is rougher and a lot more raw and much weirder. There are a few long jam out parts that might discourage some, but over all the energy is pretty high. I have read some rather angry reviews of this record, mostly by indie rock nerd types, but as a total Neanderthal I thought this was a killer album all around. They have a second album but I don't have it for some reason, I'll have to search it out at some point. Check this one out!

The guy behind the counter said "Some old biker dude sold these", I thought to myself maybe this record was sent here by the future me, then I snapped back to reality and forked over 6 bucks for this masterpiece. The first person to ever mention these guys to me was Mike Rutherford I think, but I didn't hear them until quite a while later when I stayed with my friend Mark in Seattle, he played me their tracks on the Scandinavian Metal Attack compilation album, along with Bathory and a few other bands, I liked OZ the best. If you haven't heard this and you dig classic metal with an Occult edge, get this now you will not be disappointed. Every song here is good and damn catchy. This is their second album, but most of their albums are good with only a couple of exceptions.

Great classic punk album here from 1978. I don't know how I missed this record when I was younger and really into this style of punk, its on fucking SIRE for fucks sake. I feel like I have seen it and passed on it during one of my "I'm only buying metal" phases, ha ha. They even played all the classic New york clubs with a lot of other uber famous bands. Anyway this is a really great album, not perfect but certainly a lost gem. Most of these songs are good here, some better than others. The best tracks would have to be "Rats", "She's Dead" and "(Your Love is like) Nuclear Waste", but the majority of the rest are well above average too, this is their only real album from the time period, though they did make a reunion album in 2007, but I haven't heard it. Anybody? Check it out.

WOW! I have been playing the shit out of this one, truly fucking amazing. Tons of punk energy with NWOBHM type riffs. At times this reminds of the Misfits, I know that's crazy but something about the delivery and melodies really makes me think of them or something else Danzig might do. A better description would be Deep Purple and the Misfits had a Hyperactive NWOBHM baby. However, this is really not a punk record, although it does come close at times. This is totally metal! Both of these songs are very catchy, very upbeat and they both get relentlessly stuck in my head. This is their first single, they also manato make ged a full album in 83 called "No more Escape" and a couple of great demos, all worth checking out. Great shit!.

Not the best monster record out there but its got to be the best monster Christmas album. You may have heard the title track from this on one of my "Goodnight Whatever You Are!"comps, if so you know what your in for, if not please go get that first. Filled with tons of cool and weird monster themed Christmas tunes, that will either make your day or make you want to shoot yourself shortly after hearing it, personally I dig it, but probably for all the wrong reasons. Oh man do I love these two fucking albums, when I first got into them I would have sworn they were the best thrash metal band in the world. I still totally play the shit out of both of these. Very killer thrash metal with a rock 'n' roll attitude. Great guitar and perfect tortured vocals. I think these dudes primarily played hardcore shows for some reason, but this is pure thrash metal. I like the later stuff also but nothing touches Power and Pain.

Though this steps outside of my distinct boundaries of not listening to metal from the 90's, again not that there aren't good bands, but 90's metal for the most part leaves a lot to be desired for me. However I really enjoyed this album, its was certainly out of date by 1990 when it came out. This is sort of thrash metal, sort of speed metal, sort of all over the place, but good. This cover is beyond cheesy to an almost generic level and jeez that name is terrible for sure. Still for some reason I put this on and I really dug it. Their only other appearance was on the Mosh on Fire: Banned In L.A. comp from PMRC Records in 1992.

Killer fucking record from 71, very rocking and pretty heavy in some places for Florida band. This is another group I featured on one the Atomic Bombs Away comps I put up. Totally awesome rock and totally obscure! This whole thing has an MC5 meets Grand Funk vibe to me, I'm not even sure why I'm saying that exactly. Anyway this is a fantastic album and I have played the shit out of it lately. Its kind of laid back in a weird way, still energetic and exciting, but not taxing in the least. These guys were said to also have quite a theatrical live show, well worth your time and effort. Get it!

Formed in New York way back in 83, this albums only real claim to fame is that it features two members that would go onto be in a ton of great bands, this one included. Of course I am talking about Joe Hasselvander (Pentagram, Deathrow, Phantom Lord, Raven) and Jack Starr (Virgin Steele, Burning Starr, Thrasher, Phantom Lord). Though this isn't as good as some of those bands, its still a great piece of wax that should delight most of you jaded metal heads. I really enjoyed it and I loved the fucking vocals! I totally dig this cover two, its way cheesy in all the right ways. Here's a great quote from the back of the album that might tell you what to expect.

Total Blazing evil metal here, very Venom-esqe to say the least. I fucking love this record. When I first got this I assumed it was going to be a crossover album due to the name and logo, but this is pure early black metal. These guys have a demo before this that is also worth checking out as well. An interesting little factoid here about these guys guitar player Kurt, In April 1986, Kurt was accused of killing his adoptive mother with a hatchet and scissors while on drugs. He claimed that he thought he was a robot. He wanted to open up his mother to see if she was a robot also. He was charged with second-degree murder. On March 9th, 2005 original founding member Kurt A. Struebing was killed when he was crossing a bridge in Seattle, Washington. His car and about 3 other cars were stopped at a barricade on a swing bridge which was open letting boat traffic go through the Duwamish Waterway. Witnesses report that his car suddenly pulled out of line, bursted through the stopped traffic and ran through the barricade falling 60 feet to his death. They are not sure if he was under the influence or suicidal. This recording is pretty raw and certainly not for everyone, but if you dig Venom, Atomkraft, Bathory or Warfare this will make you very happy, so get it!

OMEGA - THE PROPHET 1985 (UK)

Here's one that's a bit different, I think. Originally called Apocalypse, these lads changed their name to Omega in 1983. They appeared on the Ebony records compilation "Metal Warriors" with the track "Blood Sacrifice". Somewhere around 1985 they released this moody little piece of wax. This one doesn't really fit the NWOBHM mold for me really, though it's not that far off the mark overall I guess. There just something very downer about it. Despite the terrible Beatles cover, I really enjoyed this one and this might sound weird but something about ii reminded me of Amebix at the beginning, I doubt anyone will agree with me, maybe its just the cover.

I doubt that I will be introducing this album to that many of you out there but if you haven't heard it than by all means start downloading it right now, this thing is unbelievable. I first heard this in maybe 96 or 97 at someones house that I stayed at after a show, but had heard about it long before that. Led by the beautiful and energetic front woman Jinx Dawson, this is truly astonishing stuff, totally satanic and evil and also completely wonderful heavy music and lyrics, some of the songs get so deep inside my brain, that I cant stop thinking about them, "The White Witch of Rose Hall" is especially addictive. I have burned this album out over and over again through the years and lately I have been playing it a lot again, so I'm posting it. Any serious rock fan will listen to this and hear tons of ways that this has influenced other great heavy rock, metal and goth artists since its release. Totally a undeniable classic, so check it out!

Total Swedish Sabbath worship from 83, what else could you ask for right? Both of these are pretty catchy, at first I didn't like the vocals that much but they totally grew on me after a couple of listens. The guitars on the a-side are very heavy and dark but still in the 70's mold for sure, an excellent track. The b-side is a bit different, still heavy once it gets going but at first it sounds like a bad KISS track or worse(if thats possiable). Of course I gotta say something about the cover, its looks like it was done with color pencils or some shit and I fucking love it!
